Ironbridge Visit
From Mike Grimes:
Following last Sunday's meeting I have been researching the various options

Last Sunday night the Antiques Roadshow was at Blists Hill Victorian Town and is currently available on BBC iPlayer. Also see the website http://www.ironbridge.org.uk/. Blists Hill seems to be the main point of interest followed by the Coalport Pottery and the Ironworks etc etc

Best value is the Individual Passport ticket giving total flexibility:
under 60 costs £21.95 each
over 60 costs £17.60 each

This ticket gives unrestricted access for 12 months to all 9 museums. This would allow us to run the trip again before 24/4/2011 with free access for those who came in 2010 and/or combine with other things eg the Severn Valley Railway.

There is a group rate which requires 20+ and whilst slightly cheaper, the passport only allows 6 consecutive days use, or individual tickets which work out far more than the passport. I don't think either of these are the best option.

Looking at weekend accommodation

Lots of B&B guest houses close to Ironbridge but most have a maximum of 3 to 5 double rooms so we would need to split up if more than 5 cars. Double room rates about £60 and upwards.
Telford Whitehouse Hotel £60 double room including full breakfast, car park and leisure club
International Hotel Telford £39 double room including continental breakfast (with bacon or sausage bap!) and car park

These 2 hotels seem to get pretty good ratings on the TripAdviser website. These are just the basic options - eg the Best Western hotel is about £100 and I have not gone for the option of an evening meal.

I need a firm indication of interest as the accommodation is going to need early booking and I cannot really go further until I have an idea of the numbers of rooms required etc - please email me or post to the blog.

Last chance for notification MUST be at the Antrobus on 21st March

Thanks to a suggestion from Alan Smith I checked the Holiday Inn at Telford. I spoke to the hotel front desk direct and the best deal is for direct internet booking (virtually half price of booking with hotel) Includes car parking and leisure pool etc Room only £44.25 for a double on 24 April prepay non refundable. www.holidayinn.com Breakfast voucher buy from reception desk £8.95 (or pay £10.95 without voucher!) Also discounted Ironbridge passport lasting 12 months bought at hotel Over 60 cost £14.36 Under 60 cost £17.96 Please let me know when you have booked and then we can sort out the meeting point to set off in convoy.
