Jeff and Deb's post for Alun

As I have now changed the home page back to normal, I thought it would be a shame to so quickly lose the post which Jeff and Deb Parsons made, so I've copied it here to keep it on the site for a while longer:

Both Deb and I just wanted to share our feelings over the recent loss of Alun.

We first met Alun & Erica when the Red Rose Group used to meet at the Fiddle in’th Bag at Burtonwood in the early nineties.

What a fantastic couple, full of enthusiasm for TRs. It was a great day when Alun became group leader and Red Rose went from strength to strength.

In our opinion Alun was one of the very few true gentlemen left in our community.

We left the group when we sold our 3a and missed it immediately so we could not wait to get our 5 on the road to be able to share what we once had.

We were so saddened to learn of Alun’s illness and to see him for the first time after we rejoined the group. What a terrible illness this is!

Unfortunately we will not be able to attend the funeral this week as I am working in Scotland but we wanted to share our thoughts with others and to let Erica, the family and friends know that we will be thinking of them all on the day.

Our very sad regards to all.

Jeff & Deb Parsons

Proposed Ironbridge Visit 25th April

Following my comments at the AGM I have looked at the logistics of this to check timings.

If we started say at M56 J14 services leaving by 10am and went a country route (say via Northwhich and Whitchurch) Google reckons it's about 60 miles and 1 hour 40 mins so we are more than likely to arrive about 12 noon. It might also be as easy for some people to meet up at the Antrobus or the Lymm services on the M6. After lunch (picnic??) we would have a max of say 5 hours before needing to think about return journey and or evening meal stop for those who prefer.

The Ironbridge area has about 10 museums and we could only probably look at a couple of them. No doubt everyone would want to do different ones!

The possible alternative is to find out if suitable hotels are available and make it optional for people to stop overnight giving more time to see things on the Saturday and the Sunday before leaving pm on Sunday. Those that wanted to could only do the Saturday and return home.

I would like to get some ideas of numbers interested in the week end option to see what sort of hotel deal we could find.

Please reply as soon as possible on the blog or to grimesDOTmATo2DOTcoDOTuk

Mike

Request from Didcot - Driving Skills Test at IWE

I've received the following from Didcot. If anyone would like to be involved or thinks they might be able to help, please let me know:

To all Group Leaders,

Dear all,

Many people have spoken to me about having some form of driving skills test that people can participate in at our International Weekend. Due to the available space and rules and regulations about competitive driving events this would most likely be some form of 'gymkhana' or driving skills test rather than a speed based event.

In order to make this happen we need a group of volunteers with some knowledge and lots of enthusiasm to take the lead. If any local group is interested please call me at the office and we can talk through the possibilities.

Yours sincerely,

Allen Forster

General Manager - TR Register
Tel: +44 (0)1235 818866 Fax: +44 (0)1235 818867
Website: www.tr-register.co.uk

Thanks, Chris

Classic Adelaide Car Run

Hi all,

One of my guys from this office is currently working on site overseeing the build of a large ship lift for the Australian Navy in Adelaide that we have designed.

He has sent me a link to the photos from the Classic Adelaide Car run from 2008 and another link to the overall site. On the photo site there are several 7's & 8's plus a very nice 3 and loads of other really nice pieces of machinery. He attended the 2009 run but his camera failed to operate correctly.

http://www.classicadelaide.com.au/ca09/index.asp,

and from 2008:

http://www.classicadelaide.com.au/ca09/ ... start.html

Many others would like to see these pictures.

No I can't send you or anyone else out there because there is a queue and I am at the front of it!

Regards

Tim

Cranage Gardens Open Days

The Cranage gardens are open on the Sat 26th and Sun 27th June. There are 4 gardens, 2 from the previous list and 2 new gardens. The charity is the National Garden Scheme and it supports Marie Curie, and a variety of children and hospice charities.

I would appreciate the club’s support again, the amount of support we received from the club helped make the event in 2008 such a special and successful one. We are going to make every effort to raise as much money as possible. I don’t know if we can beat £3,700.00 but we’ll try.

Many thanks

Sue

TR3 hardtop for sale

Dave has a hardtop that came with his TR3 when he bought it seven years ago. It is starting to get in the way because it is such an awkward shape, and he intends to get rid of it. Dave wondered if anyone in the club might be interested in it. He reckons it is not up to much and thinks the major component of it is glass fibre. It lacks a window and the attachment to the car would need sorting.

Anyone interested before Dave cuts it up???

Red Rose Weekend from Chris Briggs

The 1st Lancashire weekend has been a resounding success with a big thanks to all those who supported us both from the Red Rose Group and all of the other groups (8 groups in total).

The weekend was centered around the Crofters Hotel in Gastang with over 60 TRs taking part in the organised runs and over 100 folks attending the Saturday night dinner and entertainment. We've received some fantastic feed back from the majority of those taking part.

This weekend would not have been possible without all of the considerable hard work put in by Red Rose members, I'd like to give a big thanks to all who contributed so willingly to a brilliant and successful weekend.

A couple of extracts from emails:-

Just got home and nearly unpacked after a cracking weekend. Just to say thanks to all of Red Rose for their hospitality and organising the weekend, we had a great time!! the only problem you now have is matching it next time.
Thanks again and look forward to seeing you all again before too long
Regards
John and Jean Hussey
Wharfedale Group

Hi Chris,
Both Vicki and I would like to thank the Red Rose Group for an excellent weekend, as it was our first one we didn't know what to expect, but we both enjoyed the runs and the company. We shall both be looking forwards to the next one!!
Peter and Vicki Parkinson.
Camb Followers.
