Revised Plan for Transport Old and New, May 9th

To Red Rose members coming on the run on May 9th:

Many apologies - but I had a message from Airbus yesterday to say that they have moved their afternoon factory tours to the mornings, and that we now need to be at the factory at 0945 on May 9.

Airbus also want the following for those going into the factory - name, DoB, place of birth, nationality. Please let me have this information to collate for Airbus - I need it this week ideally - but if anyone is too shy to give it to me, I will send you an e-mail address at Airbus where you can send it direct.

We will now meet at the Broughton Shopping Park at Broughton in Flintshire, CH4 0DE, junction 35A of the A55 with the A5104. We need to arrive at 0930 latest to drop off the shoppers and cross over to Airbus for 0945. For those going to the factory there will be coffee inside - Linda will look after coffee for the shoppers. When the tour ends at 1230 we will collect the shoppers and go to Hawarden, The Glynne Arms, for a pub lunch. I will send you a menu for the lunch - if you can tell me your orders in advance we can speed up the process for the lunchtime. After lunch we will go to Cotebrook on the A49, CW6 9DS, for a short talk and look at the horses.

I will provide all the route information on the day.

I'm very sorry - I know this means a much earlier start for some of you, but I'm afraid it's out of my hands.

Regards
Mike
Phone O1244 674674

East Lancs Railway Vintage Gathering

I have received the following from the East Lancs railway - it may be an event we'd like to look at with a coordinated response rather than individually:

Dear Sir/Madam,

The East Lancashire Railway will again be holding its annual Vintage Transport Gathering on Sunday 8th September. This is a static show event for the owners of classic, historic and vintage vehicles that are over 20 years old, exhibitors will be based at either Bury Bolton Street Station or Bury Transport Museum.
2013 will see a major change to the event from previous years – it will be combined with two events at the Bury Transport Museum on the Saturday, namely the first ever stand alone Bus Gathering and a Transport Collectors Fair. This will feature indoor stalls full of models, books and other transport industry memorabilia as well as an outdoor exhibition of vintage buses.
At this stage mainly due to the number of exhibitors required there are no plans to extend the Vintage transport gathering into the Saturday. However, should you wish to make a weekend of your visit to Bury you now have a bigger reason to! Clearly if it is success I will look at holding a two day event in the future, but, I will need your support to make it a success.
As a thank you for displaying your vehicle exhibitors can enjoy a free ride on the 11 ½ miles of preserved railway the ELR operates. Details of the East Lancashire Railway can be found at www.east-lancs-rly.co.uk

The number of complementary train travel tickets depends on your vehicle type;

Motor Cycles- Driver
Cars – Driver plus one passenger
HGV – Driver plus one passenger
PSV – Driver plus four passengers

Places are limited to 120 so please ensure that you return this form as soon as possible to secure your place. Forms can either be posted to the address listed below or returned via e-mail to vintage@east-lancs-rly.co.uk Tickets and instructions will not be posted to entrants until at least 4 weeks prior to the event.

Yours sincerely,

John Lomas
Vintage Transport Gathering Organiser
Email: vintage@east-lancs-rly.co.uk
Postal Address: Bolton Street Station, Bury, Lancs, BL9 0EY
Tel: 07590 436 225 (after 7.00 pm)

Dave has a hardtop that came with his TR3 when he bought it seven years ago. It is starting to get in the way because it is such an awkward shape, and he intends to get rid of it. Dave wondered if anyone in the club might be interested in it.
The 1st Lancashire weekend has been a resounding success with a big thanks to all those who supported us both from the Red Rose Group and all of the other groups (8 groups in total).

The weekend was centered around the Crofters Hotel in Gastang with over 60 TRs taking part in the organised runs and over 100 folks attending the Saturday night dinner and entertainment. We've received some fantastic feed back from the majority of those taking part.

This weekend would not have been possible without all of the considerable hard work put in by Red Rose members, I'd like to give a big thanks to all who contributed so willingly to a brilliant and successful weekend.

A couple of extracts from emails:-

Just got home and nearly unpacked after a cracking weekend. Just to say thanks to all of Red Rose for their hospitality and organising the weekend, we had a great time!! the only problem you now have is matching it next time.
Thanks again and look forward to seeing you all again before too long
Regards
John and Jean Hussey
Wharfedale Group

Hi Chris,
Both Vicki and I would like to thank the Red Rose Group for an excellent weekend, as it was our first one we didn't know what to expect, but we both enjoyed the runs and the company. We shall both be looking forwards to the next one!!
Peter and Vicki Parkinson.
Camb Followers.

The Red Rose Group

THE RED ROSE GROUP

The Red Rose group covers a large geographical area including Cheshire, Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside. It is an active club, as can be seen from the Events Calendar on this site, and from the fact that at the 2008 AGM, we once again had over 60 people in attendance. The club's committee comprises:

<font face = "arial", size="2">

Group Leader

Chris Briggs

Treasurer

Martin Hill

Newsletter

Cliff Foster

Events

Sandra Baran, John & Ann Thorp, Bill & Ann Redrobe

Shows

Tony Shearin

Webmaster

Steve Dyne

and is assisted by many volunteers who organise the runs, visits, quizzes, treasure hunts and other events which take place after the Sunday meet. The club meets regularly on the second Sunday of the month at The Antrobus Arms, Antrobus, Cheshire, at noon, (map) and on the fourth Tuesday of every month at The Dog and Partridge, Charnock Richard, from 8:30pm (map). Antrobus meets are usually followed by an event of some description and everyone is welcome to join in - even if your TR is off the road and you have to come in an inferior marque, such as the occasional MX-5, MGF or Eurobox!

As the events calendar shows, we enjoyed a very busy and varied 2007 - including glorious runs and weekends all over the country (often joining in with other groups such as Wharfedale, Y Ddraig Goch and Shropshire).
